Why Do Gas Cylinders Need to Wear Cylinder Caps?

Why Do Gas Cylinders Need to Wear Cylinder Caps?

Why Do Gas Cylinders Need to Wear Cylinder Caps?

Because most cylinder valves are made of copper alloy and are relatively fragile. Although some are made of steel, their structure is smaller than the cylinder body. When screwed on the cylinder  body, a right angle is formed between the cylinder neck and the cylinder  valve joint. It is both the fragile point of the cylinder and the protruding point of the cylinder, and is most susceptible to mechanical damage or external impact. If the cylinder falls, falls, rolls, or is hit by other hard objects due to careless damage during transportation, storage, and use, the connection between the cylinder valve joint and the cylinder neck may easily break.

Consequences of a Broken Cylinder Neck or Cylinder Valve:

When the oxygen cylinder valve breaks, the 200bar high-pressure gas in the cylinder causes the high-pressure gas in the cylinder to lose control, causing the high-pressure gas to spurt out. The reaction force makes the cylinder rush in the opposite direction. It can cause damage to machinery and equipment, buildings, and even cause casualties; when the acetylene cylinder valve is broken, flammable gas rushes out, forms an explosive gas mixture with air, and explodes when exposed to an open flame. The gas ejected at high speed from the cylinder will cause more serious secondary accidents (such as fire, explosion, poisoning, etc.) depending on the nature of the gas in the cylinder. If the cylinder is filled with flammable gas, static electricity generated by the intense friction of high-speed jets or other fire sources can cause combustion and explosion.

The cylinder valve is exposed to the outside, and it is easy for dust or grease to invade during transportation and storage, thus causing danger. Wearing a safety helmet can prevent the contamination and intrusion of dust or grease substances.
In order to eliminate the above-mentioned dangers, cylinder making units are required to be equipped with safety helmets when cylinders leave the factory. When using gas, unscrew the safety cap and place it in a fixed place. After use, put the cylinder cap on and tighten it in time. Do not throw it away. Never forget to wear a safety helmet when handling, loading and unloading.
